PUBLIC consultation on whether to introduce 20 mile per hour zones around Marlborough is set to open on March 16.

Mayor Mervyn hall urged urged councillors to act promptly on the issue and the majority voted in favour.

The consultation comes after Wiltshire Council used 21 speed recorders called metrocounts to assess traffic speeds around the town.

Options include introducing 20mph limits on the High Street, New Road, London Road and Barn Street, including St Martins and Kingsbury Street in the zone, or changing none of the speed limits.

The consultation runs until April 27 and a decision will be made at a full town council meeting on April 30.
