THANKS to the Co-op’s Community Fund and the supermarket’s shoppers, three Calne-based charities have been awarded a share of £7,526.47, to keep them up and running.

Calne and District Link, which provides care and transport for those in the local community who need it, 1st Calne Scout Group, and Oldbury Wednesday Club, which provides a day service with lunch and companionship for people over 60-years-old, living in Calne, Cherhill and surrounding villages, were successful in being supported by the Co-op’s Community Fund this year.

On Saturday, (November 25), a giant cheque was presented to representatives of the three groups at a special ceremony in the Co-op store in Mill Street by Co-Op Team Manager Julie Edwards.

The Co-op Community Fund gives one per cent of what is spent on Co-op branded products and services to charities members have chosen to support.

Chair of trustees of the Oldbury Wednesday Club, Paul Bryant, said: “All three groups are very grateful for this community support and these additional funds will be very useful. It is very generous from the company and all the staff at the Calne Co-op who have contributed to the success of the scheme locally.”
