LLOYDS Banking Group customers were briefly left unable to take out cash this morning.

It came as the group, which operates high street brands Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland, experienced "intermittent service issues" with ATM and card transactions.

The problems are understood to have affected just hundreds of the groups millions of customers. The service issues are not believed to have been "sinister" or linked to hackers.

It did, however, leave bank customers unable to pay by card or retrieve cash from around 9.35 until 10 am this morning.

A spokesman for Lloyds Banking Group said: “We experienced intermittent service issues with some ATM and card transactions for a short period earlier this morning, impacting a small number of customers, which have since been resolved.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

The problems are now understood to have been fixed.
