A BRIGHTLY coloured altar cloth, designed by pupils for use at Broad Town Church of England School, was presented on Thursday at a special assembly.

The three-day design project, led by Elisa Amor, an artist and textile designer from Melksham, involved pupils, parents and grandparents who came up with ideas and drawings representing the school's vision and values.

Headteacher Bridget Long said she was delighted at the success of the venture, which was initiated by Class One teacher Gretchen Dent, and attracted great enthusiasm after its introduction as a homework exercise.

She said: "The result is amazing and this beautiful altar cloth will be a focal point in our school."

The artwork depicts the school emblem, Broad Town White Horse, the Wiltshire countryside and symbols of the Christian faith that is central to the school's ethos.

Everyone joined in thanksgiving for completion of the work which will be treasured by the school's present and future pupils.

Ms Long thanked Elisa Amor for the encouragement she offered to children on her visits and for assembling the work so effectively.
