HEYWOOD Prep School in Corsham is celebrating being chosen as the top independent prep school in the South West by the Sunday Times.

Last year the school came in at number 17 and in 2013 it was ranked number 77. Headteacher Guy Barrett is delighted that this year the school has scooped top place for its academic achievements.

Mr Barrett said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been named top prep school in the South West, particularly as we are a non-selective school.

“Everything we do is geared towards helping each child fulfil his or her potential, in whatever way suits them best. Our children achieve amazing things, and we are extremely proud of them.”

  • SUTTON Benger Primary School has been named the ninth best state primary school in the South West by the Sunday Times.

The top performing schools in the region were unveiled in the paper’s Parent Power supplement which was published on Sunday.

The primary school has 70 per cent of its pupils achieving a level five in their Key Stage 2 maths SATs and 81.67 per cent reaching the same grade in English.

Of the schools inside the top ten, only Gotherington Primary School in Cheltenham had a higher percentage (82 per cent) of pupils reaching a level five in English.

Headteacher Hayley Roberts said: “I am delighted that our school is ranked so highly. The achievement is a reflection of the hard work put in by pupils and all involved in school life.”

The results put the school in 99th place nationally.
