A man has been airlifted to University Hospital Southampton after an incident in Bromham this morning.

The man, who has not been identified, suffered serious injuries at Stiles slaughterhouse.

A Wiltshire Air Ambulance spokesman said the man was taken to the major trauma unit to see an opthamologist – a specialist who deals with eye injuries and diseases.

His injuries are thought not to be life threatening, but are described as life changing.

The spokesperson said: “I can confirm there was an industrial incident and the patient was airlifted to a major trauma unit in Southampton due to the severity of his injuries.”

Police attended the scene but the investigation is now thought to be in the hands of the Health and Safety Executive.

It is believed the injured man is in his 30s and was involved in maintenance work when he sustained glass-related injuries.

A Great Western Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The man suffered major facial trauma in the incident.

"Paramedics made him comfortable after their arrival, and the man received pain relief and his wounds were dressed. The nature of his injuries are thought to be life-changing.”
