For the third year running, students at Sheldon School’s sixth form in Chippenham are celebrating results that are among the best in the country.

For the last two years Sheldon has been ranked in the top 30 comprehensive schools in England, with a UCAS points average above 370 points per student.

Sixty per cent of the students achieved grades A* to B.

Twenty-two students achieved three A grades or better.  Forty-three achieved at least one A grade;  26.2 per cent of grades were As or A*s;  60.2 per cent were B grades or above.  Only three of the 500 A level entries resulted in U grades.

The school can boast some truly exceptional students, including former sixth form president Claire Roberts, who achieved with four A*s and one A, and will be going to Manchester University to study drama and English literature.

Kevin Koon, who scored  with three A*s and two As, will be going to Bristol to read Economics.

Callum Henry and Ed Smith both achieved two A*s and three As. Callum is going to Exeter to read European law while Ed will be studying biochemistry at the University of Oxford.

Gerard MacMahon, who will be leaving the school for a new job in Qatar in September, said: “These results are outstanding and they are a reward for a lot of hard work from our  students.

"They also reflect a lot of effort from A level teachers and much support from parents.  Personally, I am proud to see such achievement from students I have worked with throughout my time at Sheldon.”
