Devizes MP Claire Perry, who chaired the Parliamentary inquiry into online child protection, has welcomed today’s launch of the consultation into web pornography controls led by the UK Council for Child Internet Safety.
The consultation invites organisations, industry representatives and individuals to submit their views on parental controls including whether they would support a default “opt-in” filter system, which was a key recommendation of the Parliamentary inquiry.
Mrs Perry said: “I am delighted that the government is keeping its promise of consulting on a broad range of online child protection measures, including an opt-in system to access adult content on the internet.
"I have been calling for this measure since October 2010 and we will finally get the broad range of views and detailed information that we need to make a decision.
"We know we have to do more to keep our children safe online.”
