THE sun shone for the 29th Devizes PHAB (Phys-ically Disabled and Able Bodied) wheelchair push and walk on Saturday.

Around 40 members took part, waving Union flags to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

They set off from the Nursteed Centre and followed a route around Sarum Drive, Pans Lane, The Green and back to the centre.

Organisers of the annual event hope to have raised £2,000 for Devizes PHAB, plus more than £500 for other charities including the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust, Devizes Wednesday Club and hearing dogs for deaf people.

All the participants were presented with a special Diamond Jubilee and Olympic medal by Devizes Mayor Kelvin Nash, PHAB club president David Court and vice-president Christopher Altree.

Fancy dress and hat contests were judged by the deputy mayor and mayoress of Devizes, Jim and Jenny Gudgeon, and PHAB president David Court. Fancy dress winners: 1, Rose Lonsdale as ‘The Queen who made the hearts and tarts’; 2, Anne Giles and John Baker, as ‘Saloon girl captures sitting bull’; 3, Pat Putland as ‘Royal supporter’.

Fancy hat winners: 1, Margaret Stickley with ‘Flower garden’; 2, Veronica Waller with ‘Pom pom hurray’; 3, Pat Putland with ‘Red, white and blue fanatic.’
