PEWSEY’S Olympic star Shelley Rudman is urging the women of Wilt-shire to get fit by taking part in fun sporting and leisure events solely for the female population.

The Olympic silver medallist and 2012 Skeleton Bob World Cup champion is once again supporting this Wiltshire Council event dedicated to getting more women into sport and leisure called Women of Wiltshire (WOW) Fit.

Ms Rudman said: “As someone who tried their hand at an unusual sport and got immense enjoyment from it, I would urge others to use this event to try and have a go at something themselves.

“Sport is not only a great way to get fit but it’s a lot of fun and a wonderful way of meeting people. I’m thrilled to support WOW Fit.”

WOW Fit is being held at many locations across Wiltshire from June 11-17. Events include golf, dance, netball, canoeing, running, tennis and many more.

All of the activities organised will be fun and friendly, with qualified coaches, to give women of all abilities the chance to learn something new or improve skills they may already have.

Cabinet member for leisure, Stuart Wheeler, said: “I would really urge women to sign up. This is a great chance to try something new in a friendly environment.”

WOW Fit has also been granted the Inspire Mark – the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme. This recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Lord Seb Coe, chairman of the London organising committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG), said: “WOW Fit is encouraging women of all ages to fulfil their potential. I am proud that with the help of partners such as Wiltshire Council we are delivering on our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games to boost participation in sport and leisure.” For a full list of activities on see www.wiltshire.gov.uk/wowfit
