Entries are now open for this year's Wiltshire Police Authority Community Award.

In its second year, the award recognises the work of charities and groups which are supported by the authority and Wiltshire Police.

Last year organisers received entries for Bluez ‘n’ Zuz, Splash, Wiltshire and Swindon Neighbourhood Watch Association, the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust and Victim Support Wiltshire, who were announced as the overall winner.

Christopher Hoare, WPA Chairman, said: "The work of those charities and organisations that entered the competition last year was wide-ranging and the work that they do for the public is invaluable.

"They provide real support to the community and work with young people by encouraging them to engage positively with the Police and keep away from possible negative behaviours.

"The WPA Award is to recognise the excellent work of these groups which is provided entirely by volunteers."

Entries must be received by Friday, May 25 and following information should be sent:

* A written report detailing activities of the organisation within the past financial year;

* A reference letter from a user of the services the organisation provides;

* A reference letter from a volunteer working within the organisation.

The written report should be no more than 1,000 words, highlight the use of volunteers, provide detail on the impact on the lives of users, and give detail on how the organisation achieves value for money.

Organisations applying must also be able to demonstrate how they are supported by the authority and the police.

A ceremony will be held in which entrants will receive a certificate recognising the work that they do and a silver rose bowl will be presented to the overall winner.

Entries should be sent to the Chief Executive, WPA, Golden House, London Road, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10 2RD, or emailed to police.authority@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk.
