The steam locomotive Bittern, one of the record- breaking A4 Mallard class, will be pulling a special train on Thursday, June 21, to mark the 150th anniversary of the original Berks and Hants Extension Railway.
The BHER provided a rail link between Devizes and Hungerford with stations at Bedwyn, Savernake, Pewsey and Woodborough.
Parts of it were incorporated into the later Paddington–Penzance line that provides high-speed trains from the capital to the West Country.
On June 21 the train will pick up passengers at Hungerford being, it is believed, will be the first steam train to stop at the station for at least 50 years.
The special train is run by Cathedrals Express, which runs steam train outings from London usually to cathedral cities.
This one will start at Victoria Station in London and end its run at Minehead using the West Somerset private line for the last 20 miles of its journey from Taunton to the coast, with the return journey in the evening.
