Cherhill and Holy Trinity are the latest schools to have a week with the Calne Games torch.

The torch is being circulated among the primary schools in and around the town in preparation for the Calne Games event in June.

Every child from the participating schools will be involved in at least one sporting event at John Bentley School and Calne Leisure Centre.

Cherhill head teacher Terry Hall said: “The Olympics is a fantastic opportunity for everyone. We have been doing all sorts of things while we have had the torch here.

“We made gold medals and individual torches and researched the history of the Games and the torch route. The children have never seen anything like this happen in the UK before and it is always nice to do something different.”

Children at Holy Trinity dressed in Olympic colours and brought in loose change, raising £250 for Sport Relief.

PE teacher David Tren-dell said: “This week has been a great start to our Olympic term. Now we’re looking forward to the torch relay on May 23 and the Calne Games in June.”
