Youngsters in Malmes-bury were counting on a larger than life new friend to join them for their giant’s tea party at Stanton St Quintin Primary School.

More than 100 children throughout the school were involved in the scheme as part of a giant’s themed maths week.

The project, in partnership with Makebelieve Arts, saw the youngsters make calculations from a few items including a large shoe belonging to Jumbo the Giant.

Maths subject leader Sarah Matthews said: “Every class made invitations and food, and we even made an absolutely giant pizza – from cardboard of course, because giants don’t eat real food.

“The children made everything from placemats to rugs and had to apply their maths skills in a problem solving context to work out how big everything had to be.

“They loved it.”

The large table, generously laid out for Jumbo, BFG, the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, the Iron Man and many more, included a giant bottle of red wine, big biscuits and super-sized sandwiches and sausages.
