THE May Mile run for children, which takes place at Bromham football club on May 20, has been trademarked as the only run exclusively for children in the country.

Mum Zoe Rucker, whose brainchild the run is, decided to trademark the run when she discovered it was the only one of its kind in the UK.

She said: “It was a laborious process but I was able to do it all online. You have to pick a category and I had to be careful not to get carried away as it costs £50 a category.

“But it was worth it. I had to write a very polite letter to a group in Nottingham who have used the name May Mile for their own race, which is for adults. The May Mile is unique. I can’t find anything like it in the world.”

Mrs Rucker has also scored a coup in getting City Dressing, the firm that provided mile markers and other signage for the Lottery 5k run at the Olympic Stadium last month and the Great North Run, to “dress” the May Mile with banners and bunting.

There are six categories for the young runners from under-sevens, who run half a mile, to 16 year olds. A warm-up will be led by sports leaders at the school before the run gets under way at 11am.

Everyone who takes part gets a medal and there are prizes for the winners of each category, provided by Blacklands Health and Fitness Club, as well as trophies.

The entry fee is £3 in advance or £4 on the day, with all proceeds going to school funds.

Also on the school field will be a barbecue, live music and advice from sponsors Park Lane Osteopaths of Chipp-enham.

May Mile T-shirts will be on sale and there will be face painting and a chocolate tombola organised by the Busy Kids pre-school.

Other sponsors include Wiltshire Concrete, Smithy Clinic and Purple House.
