Springfields Academy head teacher Trystan Will-iams is delighted after the school in Calne was nominated for a national award.
Springfields is up for best specialist school and best overall school in the country at the Times Education Supplement Awards.
Mr Williams said: “Even if we don’t win, just being shortlisted is amazing.
“The awards are televised and there will be 700 people at the ceremony – incredible exposure for the school.”
The school is up against four competitors for the specialist award and 15 for the overall award.
The ceremony is on July 6 – meaning Mr Williams will not find out how they fared until after a school trip to Tanzania.
The special school’s excellence in out-of-classroom education – led by their Extreme Classrooms TV show – is one of the reasons it has been nominated.
Mr Williams took pupils to the Arctic circle last year.
