A bespoke joinery company is bucking the economic trend and is about to launch its own brand of prestigious kitchens.

Spider Kitchens is the newest part of the Wiltshire Joinery group which was set up on the Salisbury Road Business Park, Pewsey, seven years ago by husband and wife Phil and Debby Lester.

The couple took on two extra employees just before Christmas and are now opening their own spray shop, which required another new employee.

Mr Lester said: “We manufacture bespoke items of furniture for domestic and commercial clients but this will be a whole range under the Spider brand.

“Clients often ask us to make them a kitchen, so we decided to create Spider-kitchens.com to promote that side of our business. The distinctive Spider logo on each piece – guaranteed for life – shows it is authentic.”

The couple, who met when they were both serving officers in the Metropolitan Police and have two daughters aged five and 13 years, have transformed their own cottage in Alton Barnes.

They added a large extension and opened up the space to incorporate a beautiful kitchen of their own design. Mrs Lester said: “We show our own kitchen to potential clients, and have such a good rapport with existing clients that many of them are happy for us to show people around their homes too.”

Mr Lester created the bar at the Barge Inn at Honey Street which featured in the BBC show Village SOS.
