A discarded cigarette was the most likely cause of a house fire in Malmesbury on Friday Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called to the property in Bremilham Rise at 6.50pm. Crews from Malmesbury, Tetbury, Chippenham, Cirencester and Wootton Bassett tackled the blaze, with support appliances attending from Stratton and Swindon. The British Red Cross fire and emergency support service also went to the scene.
Ten breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets and a main covering jet to extinguish the fire, which severely damaged the whole of the first floor. The bedroom where the fire started was destroyed.
