A community event in Devizes planned for this weekend by the Wiltshire Blind Association has been cancelled due to the effects of the wet weather.
Devizes Town Council has told the organisation that it cannot allow the Green to be used for its May fair and fun dog show, due to take place on Sunday, because the torrential rain has left it muddy and dangerous to use.
The recent funfair and circus had already left the ground rutted and in poor condition before the storms of recent days.
Gail Nugent, general manager at the Wiltshire Blind Association, said : “We are naturally disappointed but understand the town council’s dilemma. A lot of work has gone into the event and the charity will lose money.
“However, we have booked a new date of Sunday July 1, when hopefully the weather will be on our side.”
