Lord Carey of Clifton, the former Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991-2001, was in Marlborough on Tuesday to talk about his new book co-written with his son Andrew, We Don’t Do God.
More than 100 people were in St Mary’s Church to hear Lord Carey, who was introduced by Barry Smith, a trustee of Mustard Seed book and coffee shop that organised the event.
Lord Carey is a friend of Mr Smith and his wife Liz, and will be their guest when he takes part in A Day with Lord George Carey at All Saints Church at Burbage on Saturday May 5 10am–4pm.
Before his talk Lord Carey reminisced about his first visit to Wiltshire as a evacuee from his native East London to Bradford on Avon.
We Don’t Do God was published in February and is available in paperback £7.99 from Mustard Seed.
