Mother-of-two Claire Webb was delighted with her time in the London Marathon on Sunday – five hours and 40 minutes – and overwhelmed by the support from people along the route.

She said: “From the start to Tower Bridge it was like being in a carnival. All the pubs along the route were open and bands were performing on stages along the way. So many people were in fancy dress. It was absolutely amazing.”

Mrs Webb, from Bowerhill, was running for Self Unlimited in Rowde and Kennet Gateway Club, based in Woodborough, and has so far raised about £1,000 for the charities. Mrs Pitceathly, 48, from Allington, near Devizes, has already raised more than £2,000 for Team PB, which is raising money for research into breast and prostate cancer.

She said: “It was a beautiful day and it was good all the way round. I had trained hard for it so I wasn’t expecting to encounter any problems.

“I did it in five hours and 25 minutes but the time is irrelevant.

“The main thing was to raise money for breast cancer.”
