ROUNDWAY Parish Council is objecting to a proposal to upgrade Quakers Walk from a footpath to a bridleway.
Developers of nearby housing have applied to Wiltshire Council to request cyclists and horses have use of the path as well as walkers.
At a parish council meeting on Monday, Coun Jeanette Von Berg said: “I don’t want horses going down there.”
Coun John Parker said: “Cyclists use it now. I don’t think there is any need to change it.”
But Coun Peter Moorcroft said an upgrade was required to cater for elderly people on mobility scooters, should a proposed care village be built.
Laura Mayes, Wiltshire councillor for Roundway and chairman of Devizes Area Board, said the idea fitted in with plans for a cycle route.
