OVER £500 was raised for the Devizes Mayor’s Appeal on Monday night when Devizes Town Band performed their St George’s Day concert in the Corn Exchange.
Mayor Sue Evans expressed her appreciation for the band’s efforts during the sell-out show which showcased the group’s talents under the baton of John Blaker.
The varied programme included arrangements of the theme from Battlestar Galactica, the 60s hit A Whiter Shade of Pale, closing with Matthew Arnold’s Padstow Lifeboat.
An enthusiastic audience filled the Ceres Room, joining in with hooters and flags on a medley of patriotic tunes such as Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and There’ll Always Be An England.
Coun Evans’s appeal will benefit the Dorothy House Hospice, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Help for Heroes.
