TWO public meetings are planned in Ogbourne St George to help formulate the village’s parish plan.

The plan has been drafted by a committee of villagers to help ensure future development is in keeping with the area.

An independent committee of villagers was set up to create the plan, which in some other villages has been formulated by the parish councils.

Ogbourne St George’s parish plan, which council planners will have to take into account when considering development plans, now moves to the next stage of the development process with the public meetings.

The meetings will reveal results of questionnaires sent out to residents in January and February. Of 200 questionnaires sent out, 98 were returned.

Organisers have described this as an excellent response rate compared with parish plans in other villages.

The plan committee was delighted that a large number of respondents offered to help with future activities in the village.

Analysis of the responses is ongoing in readiness for the meetings to be held in the village hall tomorrow, from 7.30pm to 9pm, and on Saturday, between 10.30am and noon.

Some of the data from the survey has already been used by the parish council in its deliberations over existing planning issues, including the controversial Poole’s Yard plans.

A statement issued by the parish plan committee said: “The initial findings meetings will provide an opportunity for everyone to find out the majority views of the respondents.”

It added people can “get involved with the final part of the process where the parish plan is developed by teams dedicated to specific elements of the plan working with interested parties”.

There will be refreshments at both meetings and a draw for £20 worth of M&S vouchers.

The committee said: “Come and help ensure the parish plan truly reflects the views of the majority and delivers its aim of being a significant driver in the future activities in the parish.”
