Police are warning people of a computer repair scam following two reported incidents in recent weeks.

A woman in Chippenham received a call from a woman on March 13 claiming she was calling to fix her computer.

The woman was allowed access to the victim’s computer to carry out ‘repairs’ and a payment of £120 was made for this service but it is not clear that anything was actually done on the computer.

The victim has since replaced her computer in light of the incident.

A second report was received on March 17 from a woman in Bishopdown, Salisbury, who had received a call from man with an East Asian accent claiming to be from a computer repair company.

He was again allowed access to the victim’s computer and then requested a payment of £105 to continue.

The payment was not completed and the victim has since taken her computer to a shop for checks and any repairs needed.

In each case it is not clear if any damage was caused to the computers. Officers are advising people that they should not make payment for any services they have not requested.

Never part with your card details over the phone unless you are sure you are dealing with a legitimate, reputable organisation.

Anyone who receives similar calls or who believes they may have been a victim of this sort of crime should report this to the police with as many details as possible of the incident.
