Teachers at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Devizes joined their pupils in playing at an end of term recorder concert.

Parent Lucy Wain runs two recorder groups at the school for pupils aged six to nine and after she asked her sister, Jenny Scott, one of the teachers, to play a part in the concert other colleagues joined in.

Some of the teachers had never played the recorder before. Following five weeks’ practice, eight teachers and teaching assistants played alongside 15 children.

Headteacher Sheila Jones was one of the teachers involved. She said: “Music is very important at St Joseph’s. It’s been a brilliant opportunity to perform with the children.”

Mrs Jones last played the recorder 40 years ago. She added: “It brought back many happy memories but I was very rusty and so I had lots of practising to do.”

Mrs Wain said: “The children were very excited sharing their music stands with teachers. There was a bit of competition about who’d be better – the children or the adults.”
