GRITTLETON House School students are celebrating after beating off other schools to win two drama competitions at the Mid-Somerset Festival.
Two groups of 10 students competed in the ‘theme’ cup and the ‘improvisation based upon a poem’ cup.
The theme class required the Year 7 students to create a 10-minute performance of song, dance and the spoken word based on the theme of the Queen’s jubilee.
Jane Levan, head of drama at Grittleton House, said: “The children really enjoyed it because they like to get out and see what the other schools are doing. It has hopefully boosted their self-confidence.
“Winning is lovely, but it’s not why we entered.”
Both teams achieved marks of 87 per cent and certificates of distinction.
A member of The English Speaking Union wrote: “The commitment of the young people and enjoyment were present on every face.
“They clearly learned a lot.”
