A driver delivering meat to butchers Walter Rose & Son in Devizes fell and injured his neck when the meat fell on him.
The 57-year-old man, who has not been named, works for Stiles Abattoir in Bromham and was carrying a hind quarter of beef weighing 140lb from the lorry towards the shop in Sidmouth Street when he tripped at about 8.25am on Monday.
Staff from Walter Rose came to his aid and because he was complaining of a neck injury they advised him to stay where he was and called an ambulance.
Air ambulance paramedic Ross Culligan drove from police headquarters in London Road, Devizes, to the injured man.
The Wiltshire Air Ambulance was out of action that morning as it was under going maintenance so an ambulance took the man to Great Western Hospital, Swindon.
John Stiles of Stiles Abattoir said the man was discharged from hospital on Monday night and had returned to work Stephen Cook, owner of Walter Rose & Son, said: “They took the delivery man off to hospital I think as a precaution. We are glad to hear he is back at work.”
