Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service are warning householders to take extra care with top-up heating after a fire in a bedroom in Patney near Devizes on Monday night.

Firefighters from Devizes fire station were called to the bungalow in Woodland Road, Patney, at around 10pm on Monday.

It is thought that an electric fire had been turned on in the bedroom before the occupants retired for the night, and had fallen against the bed setting light to the bedding.

The house, which belongs to Sarsen Housing Association, was heavily smoke logged and the bed was destroyed.

No one was hurt and the family managed to get out of the building.

They are being temporarily rehoused while repairs are carried out.
