Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in the High Street in Marlborough where a driver forced pedestrians to run for safety as he sped through the the town centre.
The incident happened on Wednesday February 29 at about 10.30pm when witnesses would have seen a police car following a red Citroen Saxo car as it was driven along the High Street at speed from the direction of St Peter’s Church towards the town hall.
The Saxo failed to stop and police followed it through the High Street where, said PC Carl Jones, “pedestrians were forced to run for cover as the vehicle sped towards them”.
The officer said: “The Saxo continued at speed going up Kingsbury Street, passing parked cars and persons using the footpath. The vehicle continued acrss The Common before refusing to slow, crossing the busy A346 causing two vehicles travelling from Swindon to stop across the junction to prevent a serious accident.
“The Saxo continued into the estate (Portfields and the Acres) at speed eventually stopping in Rabley wood View where the driver ran off but was later detained and arrested.”
Police want to speak to anybody who was in the High Street or Kingsbury Street who saw the manner in which the red Saxo was being driven to help their investigation.
