The Devizes fundraising committee is celebrating raising £100,000 after just five years of supporting Cancer Research UK.
The Devizes local committee began fundraising for Cancer Research UK in 2007. The £100,000 was raised by a variety of community events including the recent Turn Your Town Pink, with support from many Devizes local businesses.
On behalf of the committee I would like to thank the generosity of the people from Devizes and surrounding villages as they have always been very supportive of the work that we do, and are the main reason that we have been so successful in making this amazing sum of money.
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to research into the causes, prevention and treatment of cancer and is the largest single funder of cancer research in the UK.
The charity supports research in all aspects of the disease through the work of more than 4,800 scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK who have contributed to 19 of the top 20 drugs used to treat cancer patients worldwide today.
Survival rates for cancer have doubled in the last 30 years. However one in three people will still get cancer at some point during their lifetime. Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.
Clive Boyes, Chairman, Devizes local committee Cancer Research UK.
