Reference your article in the Gazette and Herald on October 27. We are concerned by the increase over the past two years of bulk refuge juggernauts coming through the town to dispose of their loads.

We have followed these fully loaded lorries along the M4 from Bristol and this week we followed two lorries from Newbury. In addition we have monitored lorries arriving at Lower Compton from as far afield as Tiverton, South Wales and the Midlands. Hardly supportive of Hills’ aim of handling more of the county’s recycling.

Hills’ assertion that its further planned expansion has had detailed consultation with people in Calne is at best disingenuous. Certainly this has passed us by.

We fully support the Calne A4 – say “No More” campaign and see no reason why Hills should be allowed to use Calne to accept all forms of rubbish from the South of England to further its profits at the cost of our local environment.
