Neston Hedgehog Rescue have sent out a warning to revellers celebrating Bonfire Night to check for stray hedgehogs hibernating.
The hedgehog sanctuary based in Elley Green, Neston, has asked people making bonfires to check under their bonfires before lighting them as hedgehogs tend to sleep under them for warmth during this time of the year.
Kim Goodridge, of Neston Hedgehog Rescue, said: “It is always a good idea to check your bonfires for any stray hedgehogs as we’d hate them to get burnt.
“We’ve been giving out quite a few leaflets from the British Hedgehog Preserva-tion Society to warn people to be vigilant.
“At this time of the year hedghogs are preparing to hibernate and I’d ask anyone who finds any baby hedgehogs to get in contact with me, as the baby hedgehogs won’t survive on their own over the winter period.”
