MP Claire Perry joined celebrations for the fifth birthday of the Barnardo’s charity shop in its new location in Devizes.

The shop moved from the High Street into a bigger shop on the corner of Wine Street in 2006.

It has become one of the charity’s most successful shops in the region, receiving more than 4,000 bags of donations last year.

On Saturday, Devizes MP Mrs Perry joined staff and volunteers to mark the milestone. She said: “This Barnardo’s store has been a positive part of the local community and the volunteers do such brilliant work. The birthday celebration is testament to their remarkable achievement.”

Shop manager Cynthia Hart said: “Barnardo’s has had a shop in the town for more than 30 years and has always enjoyed amazing support from the people of Devizes and the surrounding villages.

“Thanks to their generosity, and the incredible commitment of our volunteers, we are able to raise much-needed funds to support the charity’s work with vulnerable and disadvantaged children.”
