THE final day of the flat turf season gets underway at Doncaster on Saturday with the feature race the totesport.com November Handicap, over one mile four furlongs.

Last season’s meeting provided the climax to the flat jockeys championship between Richard Hughes and Paul Hanagan.

A tussle between Hanagan and Silvestre de Sousa was expected this year, but a midweek treble at Redcar by the reigning champion and with de Sousa losing a couple of days in action in Australia has almost ensured Hanagan will keep his crown.

The Godolphin-trained Willing Foe is the ante post favourite for the November Handicap at Doncaster.

Local trainer Alan King has The Betchworth Kid entered, due to be ridden by Lucy Barry, plus Samson’s Son, the mount of Jimmy Fortune who could also go well.

Trainer John Dunlop bids to win the race for the second year running with Harlestone Times, but a tentative selection is the Roger Varian-trained Pekan Star.

The Listed EBF Gillies Fillies Stakes could go to the James Fanshawe-trained Captivator, while the Listed Wentworth Stakes could go to Wiltshire trained Libranno, ridden by Jimmy Fortune.

The meeting opens with a couple of two year old contests, the first featuring newcomer Henry Allingham while Richard Hills could strike with Rafeej for trainer Mark Johnston in the second.

The new jumps season gets into its stride with meetings at Sandown, Wincanton and Kelso, the Wincanton meeting featuring the Listed Badger Ales Trophy and the Grade Two Elite Hurdle plus the Rising Stars Novices Chase.

Champion jockey AP McCoy,already leading the jump jockeys table with more than 100 winners, could well add another to his tally with Dark And Dangerous at Sandown on Saturday.

On the same card, Paul Nicholls could strike with Pacha Du Polder in the Beginners Chase.

The Badger Ales Chase at Wincanton has two or three entries from the local stable of Paul Nicholls but the selection is for the Phillip Hobbs trained Estates Recovery, due to be ridden by 7lb claimer Mr J A Best.

In the Elite Hurdle, Donald McCain has Overturn entered with Nicholls represented by Celestial Halo. If both go to post together with the Nicky Henderson-trained Grandouet, an exciting contest i promised.

Veiled, trained at Lambourn by Nicky Henderson, could be the best bet in the Mares Handicap Hurdle.

At Kelso, jockey Graham Lee could land a double on board Stormin Exit and Soprano.
