Youngsters learned about life in the Iron Age at Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Devizes.
The museum held one of its popular family days on Sunday on the theme of Roman v Celts.
Re-enactors dressed up as Celtic warriors and a Roman soldier and they talked about their lives, their equipment and how it was used.
Children made swords, shields, helmets and tried on Roman costumes.
A Celtic storyteller spoke of myths and legends from the Celts while other activities included striking an Iron Age coin, digging for Roman objects in a sandpit and face painting using woad, a blue paint used by Iron Age people.
David Dawson, director of the museum, said: “It was a fantastic day. We had 182 visitors, which is up on previous family days. We had a lot of new people, particularly as St Peter’s School in Devizes is doing a project on the Iron Age and Romans.
“We like to put on family days because it attracts a different audience, a group of people who wouldn’t necessarily come to the museum.”
