CHIRTON couple Harold and Evelyn Miller have celebrated their diamond wedding. Mr and Mrs Miller moved to the village in 1955 to run Plummers Farm, a dairy farm.
They also took over Manor Farm, a beef and arable concern.
The couple both grew up in Somerset and knew each other as children.
They met up again years later when Mr Miller was working on his aunt's and grandmother's farm and his wife-to-be was working for the Land Army.
After a courtship of nine months they married on September 18 1946 at Pitcombe in Somerset.
They then ran Mr Miller's family farm until they moved to Chirton.
Mr Miller, 82, still works at Manor Farm together with their sons Andrew and Philip. The couple also have two daughters, Christine and Diane, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Friends from Somerset joined a family gathering at the Bear Hotel in Devizes on Sunday.
