DESIGNER clothing shops are making their mark in Devizes. Last Thursday a new women's clothes shop, Woolf and Bean, opened in High Street.

And former Lottery winner Andrea Holmes and her brother, John Holmes, are relocating their men's designer clothes shop, Cyan, to larger premises in Sidmouth Street. The expanded shop will also be selling women's clothes.

Woolf and Bean opened in the former Barnados charity shop and stocks labels including Velvet clothing, James jeans and Ollie and Nic bags.

It is the first shop for Katie Bean who lives near Seend. She and Joanna Woolf met three years ago when she was teaching Pilates.

Mrs Woolf, who lives near Frome, previously owned a women's clothes shop in Warminster.

She said: "We are aiming at customers who would travel 40 minutes to go shopping. We hope to build up a client base and we will buy our labels with them in mind."

Mrs Bean said they were not in competition with High Street clothes shop Spirit.

Mrs Bean said: "We don't sell the same labels as Spirit, we didn't want to. We want our shop to complement Spirit.

"We felt there was room in Devizes for another fashionable ladies clothes shop and a slightly selective boutique."

Mrs Bean said: "Devizes is on the up and it is the right time to open our store."

Cyan, which opened in June last year, is relocating four doors away in Sidmouth Street to the former Stan James betting shop.

Mr Holmes said the new shop would be about four times the size of their original shop.

Mr Holmes said: "We are pleased with how the first year has gone for us.

"That is the main reason why we are expanding."

The shop will stock labels including Oakley, Bench, Hooch, Lee jeans and Cerruti 1881.

It will be stocked with women's clothes in the new year but will have some in the run-up to Christmas.
