THE mental health trust in Wiltshire has agreed to close beds to enable more patients to be treated in the community.
The decision follows three months of consultation which ran alongside the Primary Care Trust's Pathways for Change consultation.
The closures have to be endorsed by the new Wiltshire Primary Care Trust which starts work on October 1.
Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership has agreed the permanent closure of the 15 bed Cameron ward at Chippenham Hospital which shut last November due to a staffing crisis. It was used by elderly patients with dementia.
The partnership also agreed to close 21 beds at Green Lane Hospital, Devizes. Fifteen of the beds are used by patients suffering anxiety, or depression.
