Police officers have recovered a number of mystery metal objects and are appealing for someone to come forward in a bid to identify them.

Acting Sergeant Richard Tottle, of Chippenham Police station said: "We cannot tell what they are, or who they belong to at this point in time, so it would help us if someone recognises them."

The mysterious items, which appear to be some kind of machinery, were recovered on Sunday at around 6pm following the arrests of two people in the Bumpers Farm area.

A passer-by spotted several people at the rear entrance to a field at Allington Bar Farm dumping something, which later turned out to be six Citroen wheel trims, a tail light assembly and 23 of the mystery items.

The witness followed the people in their van to Bumpers Farm and noted the van registration.

Police officers were already at the business park after being alerted to an alarm going off at the Rent-A-Centre tool hire shop.

Officers subsequently stopped the van.

They found a number of expensive power tools from Rent-A-Centre in the back, as well as another two of the mystery metal items.

Acting Sergeant Tottle said: "Anyone who recognises these items and can give us some clue as to what they are and who they belong to, should contact Chippenham Police."
