THE political party formed in the wake of the destruction of five plane trees in Devizes Market Place is objecting to the new Tory logo.
The Guardians, formed after the trees were felled amid vigorous opposition in 2001, says the new Tory logo is too similar to the Guardians' own tree image.
Guardians chairman Tony Duck, a former chairman of Devizes constituency Conservative Party, is to ask the Electoral Commission not to register the new Tory logo .
Mr Duck told the Gazette: "I find it most surprising that, having spent £40,000 on creating this new logo, no one bothered to check whether any other political party had a similar one.
"Two trees rendered in black and white on a ballot paper could well be mistaken for each other. It could affect either party."
A spokesman at Conservative Party central office said they are confident that electors would find no confusion on ballot papers as the party names would appear alongside the respective logos.
