A THIRD RAF man has died on a notorious stretch of road at Dauntsey Lock. Harry Edwards, 20, from RAF Lyneham died when his Black Honda Accord crashed at Swalletts Gate Corner on the B4069 at around 6pm on Monday.

His car then hit a telegraph pole at the side of the road and ploughed into a field ending up on its roof as he made the journey from Lyneham towards Sutton Benger.

The crash comes just over a year after the death of RAF serviceman Neil Griffiths who was killed on the same stretch of road in August 2005.

There was also an accident in 2003, which resulted in the death of RAF engineer Colin Burnett, 32.

Mr Burnett was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a Porsche Carrera.

June Potter, who lives in Reeds House opposite the site of the crash said she was one of the first people on the scene: " I was walking my dog at the time of the accident and so I didn't see it but I heard an almighty screech and a bang as I wasn't far from the road.

"That corner is so dangerous and I have had one of my dogs killed there in the past by speeding motorists."

Mrs Potter said that she saw around 20 young men come to the scene of the accident on Tuesday morning to lay flowers and tributes to their lost friend.

A second man driving a Honda Civic behind Mr Edwards' car, was arrested on Monday evening, but has since been bailed pending further police enquiries.
