After two days of negotation Ross Grant was talked down from his roof-top vigil which started after an alleged bust-up with his ex-girlfriend.

During his 48 hours on the roof of a house in Semington he threw tiles at police officers but he finally emerged at about 2pm yesterday.

The 32 year old man was arrested and taken to Melksham Police Station.

Superintendent Richard Rowland, the Operational Commander for the incident said, "This has been a protracted and attimes difficult situation to manage. For almost 48 hours, police officers were at the scene, in a variety of roles, attempting toensure that this incident is brought to a satisfactory conclusion.

"Thelives of many local residents have been affected by our presence, but we, the police, have a duty of care to everyone, and I would like toassure the general public, that our actions would be the same for anyone's child, who may find themselves in a similar position in the future."
