Calne mayor Glenis Ansell was impressed when she spent an evening on patrol with the town’s police team.
Councillor Ansell, whose husband Alfie was a police sergeant in Calne for 30 years before retiring, joined PC Emma Reed and PCSO Barry Mussard for the exercise.
She said: “I was interested to see what the patrol do and the amount of community policing that takes place.
“We were looking for a drink driver for a while. And I got to sit in on some interviews and saw how they dealt with some of the more serious incidents.
“I was impressed with the amount of tact and care and consideration all of the officers gave to people who are sometimes quite difficult.”
She said: “I was very happy with the level of activity the officers have. They are so patient with everybody.
“In general, everywhere we went people were more than happy to see the officers and they are a great example of how to deal with people.”
The mayor also emphasised the link between the police and town council.
She said: “The council is delighted to work so closely with the police. We have a great link in the town CCTV and it is good we have a presence at community events, such as this weekend’s Calnefest.”
PC Reed said the relationship between the town council and the police is essential.
She added: “We wanted to give the mayor an insight into the work we do. We already have a very strong link and work together in partnership on a daily basis.”
