Planning for Calne’s first food festival is well underway but there are still spaces for producers to get in on the act.

The festival, which takes place during September, is aimed at celebrating the food sourced and produced in Calne and the surrounding villages.

It begins with a beer-tasting evening at the Lansdowne Arms, in Derry Hill, before a week of themed evenings at restaurants around town.

The festival concludes with a food fair in the town centre on September 10, which will include a continental market, cookery demonstrations and the Wiltshire Farmers’ Market.

Peter Vaughan, of The Bistro in Devizes, leads a team of chefs in a cookery masterclass in the town hall and there is a junior masterchef competition planned.

Rob Merrick, who owns the Olive Tree restaurant and Patch of Blue tea rooms in the town, is one of the organisers.

He said: “We have got some recent additions to the schedule in the beer tasting at the Lansdowne Arms and Weston’s are coming down for a cider tasting as well.

“We are still open for producers to get in contact with us so they can get along and show off their food and drink.”

Stalls at the outdoor market cost £20 and at the indoor market cost £25.
