Lacock Primary School unveiled its new £125,000 mezzanine at an assembly held on July 11.

The Right Reverend Dr Lee Rayfield, Bishop of Swindon, took the school assembly before officially opening and blessing the new mezzanine.

The bright modern teaching area was completed last year and makes use of the high ceilings of the 19th-century building, originally built in 1824 by William Fox Talbot.

A fund-raising effort by the Friends of Lacock School has enabled the space to be furnished and made into a 21st-century teaching space.

Later in the day the wider school and surrounding community were invited to take a tour of the new space.

Light refreshments were provided as a thank-you from staff and pupils to those who supported the school during this exciting time for it.

Friends of Lacock School, secretary, Jurica Stokes, said: “The mezzanine looks lovely and I think it is brilliant. It will provide a huge benefit to the school’s children and it’s a great move forward.”
