After a successful and well-supported boules evening on the village green on Friday evening, villagers in Froxfield have agreed they want to make it a regular event – but they want a less humpy and bumpy playing area.
It was agreed, after an evening of contending with mole hills and an unlevel, imperfect area on the green, to take up a suggestion from The Pelican pub that it might create a permanent, smooth and level boules pitch.
One villager commented after Friday’s tournament: “Whilst it was great fun yesterday, I’m sure that most people would find the idea of a perfectly flat surface to play on – when the ball isn’t being thrown off course by mole hills, divots and worse – appealing.
“Also there would be food and beer on tap and it would also encourage participation and good relations with our local publican.”
