MARTIN Allen expects Paul Ince to have a massive impact on Swindon Town's youth players if the midfielder signs for the club.

Ince was due to train with the Robins today and is expected to announce a decision on his future tomorrow.

Youth team coach Allen believes if Ince joins, his signature will give the younger players and senior squad members someone to aspire to.

Allen said: "He is the kind of player all the youngsters would look up to, he is an idol really, and it would be great for the club and the kids for him to sign.

"He is a world class player and to have him around would give them something to aspire to."

Recruiting Ince, nicknamed The Guvnor', would represent a major coup for the Robins and manager Dennis Wise, but Allen is not shocked with Wise's attempts to lure his ex-England colleague.

He said: "I'm not surprised with Dennis' ambition, he has played at the highest level and so has Ince and Dennis wants players of his calibre around him."

It remains to be seen exactly what role Ince would play within Wise's set up, with a player/coach contract likely, but the manager confirmed he will be at training today.

Wise said: "I am sure we will know by Friday what his answer is.

"We would like to sign him and it would be nice to take him on board with us, whether or not he does we will have to wait and see."

With the County Ground side sitting top of League Two, following four wins out of four, even a Carling Cup penalty shoot out defeat to Brentford on Tuesday could not dampen the mood around Wanborough.

Ince's potential signature would give Town a huge boost ahead of their League Two match at home to Stockport on Saturday.

Allen said: "The place is really buzzing which is a good thing."

Former England international and Liverpool and Inter Milan ace Ince, 38, has also been linked to Birmingham, West Brom and Walsall.
