Police have blocked off the old A350 at Patterdown due to excessive mud on the road.
The road is expected to be closed from Queens Bridge in Chippenham to the roundabout at Wiltshire College until around 11am today.
The road was closed overnight, with diversions in place, to allow the highways authority to clear the mud with a mechanical sweeper in daylight.
