Many thanks to the Gazette and Herald for its help in promoting the Big Plant on the Green at 11am on Saturday.

The event, organised by the Rotary Club together with the town council, gives your readers the opportunity to participate in an official attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records for the simultaneous planting of crocus bulbs in a national campaign aimed at an awareness towards the eradication of Polio throughout the world.

It is hoped that 300-plus people will take this opportunity in planting purple crocus on a specially prepared area on the Green.

The purple crocus represents the dye stamp placed on the little finger following the polio vaccination programme.

The results of the planting will be evident in February with a wonderful display of thousands of purple crocus.
